“Record Suspension” also available for the VW T6

As early as 2013 a 220 HP VW T5 cracked the lap record for utility vehicles on the Nürburgring Nordschleife – the time: 9:57 minutes. BILSTEIN B14 coilover systems contrbuted to this furious ride but this was not simply an off the shelf product, but a solution developed by the Special Customer Requests department at BILSTEIN. The impulse for this was provided by the wholesaler Deimann Fahrwerktechnik from Hauenstein in Rhineland-Palatinate, which then took over the sales of the product. In Germany the installation is carried out through a network of BILSTEIN suspension experts who possess particular knowledge of the product and assembly. The coilover system can also be used on the current T6.

“With this B14 variation, BILSTEIN has developed a complete package which dramatically increases driving pleasure in the T6, but is still targeted towards families”, says the summary by Deimann Fahrwerktechnik. The product offers an all-round, no-worries package which is available for almost all T6 models: It doesn’t matter whether it is a sparse goods van or luxurious multi-van, with a long or short wheel base, with or without 4-wheel or heavy load suspension. The continuous variable lowering between 40 and 70 mm allows the customer an extensive choice of ride heights.

The technical advantages of the built-in BILSTEIN B14 are diverse: The height adjustment has been put in a floating position and the spring travel has been increased by 30 mm in order to guarantee the superior BILSTEIN suspension action even for a significant lowering and with poor road conditions. At the back, BILSTEIN uses monotube technology to make the handling smoother overall.

The B14 suspension option from BILSTEIN isn’t just for tuning freaks who want to cruise from one meeting to another. It provides comfortable handling and at the same time minimises the lateral tilt, and pitching and rolling movements. There is also significantly less “rocking movement” for the rear passengers, resulting in pleasant and comfortable ride. The setup is therefore recommended for passengers who easily suffer from travel sickness. All round, the BILSTEIN B14 produces a road performance which gives a significant boost to the driving dynamics for the T6 as it did for the T5 before, and irons out any unevenness in its shock absorption. Rameder presents towbars and bike carriers for the Fiat 500L

What the Beetle is to Germany, so the Fiat 500 certainly is to Italy. Even now, 60 years after the first Nuova 500 was launched, Fiat still sells cars bearing that famous name. While except for some visual elements The current Fiat 500L minivan, launched in 2012 on a Punto platform, may not have much to do with its first incarnation, but its versatility and retro looks still make it very popular indeed; and it becomes even more versatile with a Rameder towbar… The company’s online shop at www.rameder.eu has other transport accessories available, by the way.

Rameder sells both fixed (from €119) and removable (from€195) towbars, which are also available including the electric kit (fixed: from €164, removable: €240). Towbars not only allow you to tow various kinds of trailer but also to mount a bike carrier. Now you can carry two, three or even four bicycles and in a much more comfortable fashion than on a roof rack, too. Besides, this solution is also preferable in terms of stability and fuel consumption.

Rameder also sells several other accessories for the Fiat 500L, e.g. various roof racks for bikes, skiers and snowboards.

Electronically adjustable racing suspension for the World Solar Challenge

Alternative energy is the future. With its solar-powered racing cars,

Bochum University of Applied Sciences in Germany has already won multiple prizes with its solar-powered racing cars for best design in the World Solar Challenge, held every two years in Australia. Technical levels are extremely high thanks to a long-standing partnership with thyssenkrupp (BILSTEIN’s parent comapny).

Now, the third car of the research collaboration, the thyssenkrupp blue.cruiser, powered by 5 m2 silicon cells, is aiming to complete the approx. 3,000-kilometre journey through the southern continent from Darwin to Adelaide in record time. A BILSTEIN suspension is also on board for the 14th running of the event, to be held from 8 to 15 October 2017. For the first time ever the BILSTEIN engineers combined springs and shock absorbers from the MDS racing programme (Modular Damper System) with the electronic adjustment system ridecontrol®, which allows the driver to choose between sport and comfort mode.

Many of the other high-tech elements also originate from the thyssenkrupp Group, ranging from the electrical steel in the wheel hub motor, the steel wheels, the back seat made of the sandwich material litecor® and the tubular trellis frame made of ultra high-strength steel to the steering system. The specialist fields of the students involved in the project are equally diverse, covering development, design and logistics. Furthermore, the thyssenkrupp blue.cruiser is not a racing car, but a genuine four-seater. After all, the aim of the Challenge’s Cruiser class is to come up with practical concepts that can generate impetus for subsequent road vehicles.

With a top speed of 120 km/h, the Bochum University of Applied Sciences’ solar vehicle is ideally equipped for Australian highways, where speed limits rarely exceed 110. For the first time in the solar-car team’s history, an all-wheel drive system has been developed via 4 wheel hub motors. This was a guiding factor when designing the suspension. Specifically tuned to the parameters of the blue.cruiser, the MDS is an ideal fit for this concept; it has an extremely compact design thanks to motorsport technology. Clearly labelled dials also allow independent changing of rebound and bump, meaning that the set-up can be altered from stage to stage. As well as being a key feature in terms of driving dynamics, integrated height adjustment also helps in the context of aerodynamic optimisation in the wind tunnel. So there’s every reason to believe that the blue.cruiser can hold its head high Down Under. BILSTEIN is keeping its fingers crossed for its dedicated team!
