Anyone tuning a Mini or other A Series engine would do well to consider forged con rods as part of the upgrade. Mini Spares has it’s own brand forged con rods as part of its EVO high preformance collection.

Minispares steel connecting rods are machined by Arrow Precision Engineering from double-air re-melted 817M40 forgings. They weigh just 445g per rod.

The new X rod design maintains stiffness whilst reducing weight where it is not required. Naturally, ARP 2000 5/16” bolts are included, as are Colsibro small end bushes.

An automated shot peening process increases the rod’s fatigue strength and durability. The connecting rods are balanced end-over-end, sorted into matched sets and laser marked for identification before being crack detected. CMM inspection is then carried out in a temperature controlled quality department. Final visual checks are conducted before the con rods are packed in specially designed protective boxes for shipment.

M-Style is now stocking the latest CT Carbon Air Induction Kits to improve performance, dress up the engine bay and add a sporty tone to the induction sound of late model BMWs. The kit shown here is for the BMW M2 OG and M2C; it is a direct replacement for the factory induction system with no drilling or permanent alterations required. The kit will smooth the flow of the induction charge for better breathing. The insulation properties of the carbon fibre helps the air remain cooler and therefore more dense which then delivers more oxygen to the engine for a more efficient burn leading to more power. Just because a car hasn’t been around for a few years is no reason for GAZ not to make suspension for it. Take the Volvo Amazon for example; not only does GAZ offer GT dampers for the saloon model, but it also offers adjustable dampers for the considerably rarer Estate version.

Water rails are designed to simplify the cooling system and plumbing of the engine when installed in-line in a rear wheel drive car.

Zetec engines have water outlets at the back of the head; in most RWD applications these original outlet housings foul the bulkhead. Water rails are designed to transfer this outlet to the front of the engine thereby making the plumbing simpler and neater.

Burton offers two different water rails for the Zetec E engine. Both Water Rails are suitable for the Ford Zetec E 16v Silver Top -05/98 engine and the Ford Zetec E 16v Black Top 05/98-.

The first, from Raceline, connects to a crossflow thermostat housing which must be purchased separately: [crossflow thermostat housing FP610 at £39.95 or a specially modified housing FP610M at £81.60]. Fitting kit FZ471 at £12.50 will also be required.

The second water rail comes from Retroford. This rail incorporates a thermostat at the rear of the rail and provides a 38mm outlet on the exhaust side of the engine. Bypass outlets allow limited water circulation whilst the thermostat is closed. The Retroford rail is supplied with thermostat, temperature gauge switch, electric fan switch and a fitting kit.
