As early as 2013 a 220 HP VW T5 cracked the lap record for utility vehicles on the Nürburgring Nordschleife – the time: 9:57 minutes. BILSTEIN B14 coilover systems contrbuted to this furious ride but this was not simply an off the shelf product, but a solution developed by the Special Customer Requests department at BILSTEIN. The impulse for this was provided by the wholesaler Deimann Fahrwerktechnik from Hauenstein in Rhineland-Palatinate, which then took over the sales of the product. In Germany the installation is carried out through a network of BILSTEIN suspension experts who possess particular knowledge of the product and assembly. The coilover system can also be used on the current T6.
“With this B14 variation, BILSTEIN has developed a complete package which dramatically increases driving pleasure in the T6, but is still targeted towards families”, says the summary by Deimann Fahrwerktechnik. The product offers an all-round, no-worries package which is available for almost all T6 models: It doesn’t matter whether it is a sparse goods van or luxurious multi-van, with a long or short wheel base, with or without 4-wheel or heavy load suspension. The continuous variable lowering between 40 and 70 mm allows the customer an extensive choice of ride heights.
The technical advantages of the built-in BILSTEIN B14 are diverse: The height adjustment has been put in a floating position and the spring travel has been increased by 30 mm in order to guarantee the superior BILSTEIN suspension action even for a significant lowering and with poor road conditions. At the back, BILSTEIN uses monotube technology to make the handling smoother overall.
The B14 suspension option from BILSTEIN isn’t just for tuning freaks who want to cruise from one meeting to another. It provides comfortable handling and at the same time minimises the lateral tilt, and pitching and rolling movements. There is also significantly less “rocking movement” for the rear passengers, resulting in pleasant and comfortable ride. The setup is therefore recommended for passengers who easily suffer from travel sickness. All round, the BILSTEIN B14 produces a road performance which gives a significant boost to the driving dynamics for the T6 as it did for the T5 before, and irons out any unevenness in its shock absorption.
