The Ford Type-9 five speed gearbox (also referred to as a ‘Type N’ gearbox in some workshop manuals) was Ford’s first RWD five speed box and was an original fitment in the:
Ford Capri Mk3 1.6/2.0 02/1983-1986
Ford Granada Mk2 1983-1985
Ford Granada/Scorpio Mk3 1985-1988
Ford Sierra 1.6/1.8/2.0 1983-1988
Ford Transit Mk3 1985-1988
Today, it is commonly used for five speed conversions on older vehicles. However, it is not just suitable for classic Fords, but also for other classic makes such as MG and Triumph as well as for kit cars.

Burton has just taken delivery of a batch of these gearboxes that have been reconditioned using the GBT9200 long first gear conversion kit to Ford original equipment standards. This partial gear kit is designed to lower the ratio of first gear from a short 3.65:1 to a much more useable 2.98:1. The kit includes a brand new mainshaft first gear and a repurposed layshaft cluster that has been modified and fitted with the new first gear.

Castrol Classic XL20w/50 is for pre-1980 classic cars and motorcycles. It is a premium multigrade engine oil with a good all-round performance having been formulated with high quality mineral oils plus carefully selected additives. It is ideally suited to older technology and classic car engines that require a heavier multigrade oil. For younger classics there is Castrol GTX Classic 10w/40 engine oil. It is produced to original formulation as specified in motor manufacturers’ vehicle handbooks. It is period correct and can be used in vehicles either with or without a catalytic converter. It is also suitable for both naturally aspirated and turbo-charged vehicles. Mini Spares Interior Lamps for classic Minis and other BMC models

Mini Spares is pleased to announce it will shortly be receiving stocks of two styles of replacement interior lamps. This will be good news to owners of classic Minis and other BMC models. The original lamps will now be some sixty years old and will probably have tarnished, changed colour considerably and become very fragile. Many will have distorted out of shape and will crack or break when re-fitted, so will need replacing.

In order to accurately reproduce these lamps Mini Spares had to hunt high and low to get the original shade of pure white correct. To achieve this they used samples from customers and a Mini Cooper register member who had original lamps still in their boxes.

The Mk1 interior lamp with a black on/off switch and pointed torpedo ends (Mini Spares part number 14A9148) was used on MK1 model Minis and Elf & Hornet MK2 variants. It also fitted many of the 1959-on range of Austin A55/60 Cambridge, MG Magnette and sibling models.
The 14A9148 Mk1 interior lamp with torpedo ends retails at £31.20 inc VAT.

MK2 Interior lamp with square blunt ends (Mini Spares part number 13H4398) was fitted from October 1964 and retails at £32.40 inc VAT.

M-Style exterior ‘F90 M5 Touring’ Package for BMW G31 540i Touring

M-Style is now offering a kit to convert a BMW G31 540i Touring into an M5 Touring which BMW never made for the F90… but should have!

First the 540i is made to look like an M5 by fitting a genuine BMW F90 M5 LCI front bumper as well as arches. Then the following styling parts are added:

• M-Style CS style vented bonnet

• M-Style carbon fibre front splitter (3 piece)

• M-Style carbon fibre side skirt extensions

• M-Style carbon fibre rear diffuser (3 piece)

• M-Style paintable roof spoiler

• M5 competition gloss black side vents

• M-Flick colour coded mirror covers. (All these styling parts will also fit the real F90 M5).

The development car shown above also has an M-Style custom exhaust rear conversion
with quad 4” smoked exhaust tips, H&R front lowering springs that give a 30mm drop, H&R adjustable lowering links for air suspension at the rear, and a set of 9×21 & 10.5×21 AXE CF2 21” alloys with 265/30/21 & 285/30/2 Continental tyres. Of course an M5 needs superior performance so a RaceChip tuning module raised the power from 340bhp to 416bhp.
