GAZ Adjustable Race Suspension for MGZR

The affordable and compact MGZR makes a great trackday or clubman level competition car. Now, GAZ offers coilover units for the 2001on MGZR that are both height and damper rate adjustable.

Ride height is altered by means of adjustable spring seats. The height adjusters have a coarse acme form thread for ease of adjustment and the damper units are anodised to ensure that they remain in good order even after considerable service.

Damper rates are controlled by an adjuster knob on the damper body. The GAZ coilovers come with a gas cell in the reservoir filled with a high viscosity index multi grade oil to prevent cavitation and reduce fade under racing or trackday conditions.

All the units are individually tested before leaving the factory and are covered by a two year warranty.

The front GAZ GP Race Coilovers retail at £325.19 each + springs and VAT.

The complete front and rear kit with springs can be ordered as part GGA457 which retails at £1046.26 plus VAT.

GAZ produces this kit with ‘full race’ valving but can also produce a ‘road use ‘ version and supply the appropriate springs for the intended purpose.

GAZ Adjustable Dampers for Jaguar S Type (1964-66)

The Jaguar S Type was produced from 1964-1966. It was a technically more sophisticated development of the Jaguar Mk 2, which it sold alongside.

The S-type made its mark in Jaguar history by providing the styling cues, and the name, for the later retro-styled S Type which was made from 1999 to 2008.

By now most original S Types will be showing signs of age, particularly in the handling department. GAZ can provide dampers that will not only restore the ride and road holding but also offer an upgrade to adjustable damping rates.

GAZ fully adjustable GT dampers enable the damping bump and rebound rate to be adjusted to suit the conditions and driving style. They have adjustable damping rates which can be altered by means of an easily accessible knob on the side of the units.

GAZ can set the dampers up for general road use but they will also be suitable for the occasional track slalom and sprint use; alternatively, they can even be set up for serious racing use if you wish.

GAZ dampers feature a zinc plated body and protective plastic sleeve to keep them looking good and working well for long into the future.

All units are individually tested before leaving the factory and are covered by a two year warranty.

Order GAZ GT dampers for Jaguar Mk2 as GT6-2095 at £63.70 (Front) each plus VAT and
GS6-2096 £75.32 (Rear) each plus VAT.

The height adjusters have a coarse acme form thread for ease of adjustment and the damper units are black zinc plated to ensure that they remain in good order even after considerable service.

Damper rates are variable by means of an adjuster knob on the damper body. The dampers come with a gas cell in the reservoir filled with a high viscosity index multi grade oil to prevent cavitation and reduce fade should you wish to test your investment to the limit under racing or trackday conditions.

All the units are individually tested before leaving the factory and are covered by a two year warranty.

ABT Sportsline confirms its comeback to Formula E

This is good news for lots of motorsport fans: ABT Sportsline has officially applied to return to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in 2023 and enter two new-generation Gen3 cars as a customer team. ABT was already part of the Formula E family for the first seven years and is still the most successful team in the all-electric racing series, which made its debut in 2014, with 47 podium finishes and 1,380 points. After a one-year break, preparations for the comeback are now in full swing.

“Formula E has always had a big place in our hearts and we have never made a secret of the fact that we want to be back,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The managing partner had already taken a risk in 2014 and led ABT into Formula E as the first German team. Once again, the aim is now to put together a perfect package, together with Head of Sports Marketing Harry Unflath and CEO Thomas Biermaier. “After the internal kick-off, we are now talking to our current and potential partners. The goal is to bring a strong team to the championship, both on and off track.”

The first prerequisite for the comeback is a place on the grid. “We have always been in contact with Formula E and the FIA, had many discussions and have received great support from the whole team around Alejandro (Agag), Alberto (Longo), Jamie (Reigle) and Frédéric (Bertrand),” says Thomas Biermaier. The result: ABT has expressed its intention to take over the twelfth license for Season 9. ABT has also been able to win over one of the manufacturers registered with the FIA as a partner for the acquisition of the powertrains for the Gen3 era of Formula E and will announce this cooperation shortly.

Place on the grid, race cars – race drivers. “As far as our two drivers are concerned, we have very clear ideas,” says Thomas Biermaier. “We will probably start as underdogs, unlike last time as a factory team. That’s why it’s all the more important that we have quick and clever drivers in the cockpit, who fit in well with us. The first talks are exciting and very positive, so I’m sure we’ll have our team together soon.”

“I am delighted to welcome ABT back to where they belong in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship,” says Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Formula E. “ABT is a proven success story in Formula E with record-setting points and podium finishes so their return after a season out to be part of the Gen3 era is positive for fans and the sport.”

Formula E CEO, Jamie Reigle, echoed the positive sentiment for ABT’s return and what it signals: “Formula E is the pinnacle of all-electric motorsport so it’s natural that teams and manufacturers leading the electric mobility revolution want to be part of the championship.”
Reigle continued: “In Season 9 we will introduce two game-changing developments designed to enhance the appeal of racing in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. First, we debut the Gen3 race car which will set the standard in performance, efficiency and sustainability. Second, we introduce new financial regulations to underpin competitive balance and financial sustainability for our teams. Together, they create an environment for competitive racing and long-term growth. We look forward to seeing ABT embrace these opportunities as they return to Formula E in Gen3.”

Frédéric Bertrand, Director Formula E & Innovative Sport Activities at the FIA, says: “I’m delighted that a team so closely associated with Formula E since the beginning has expressed its clear intention to return to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from next season and to feature on the first grid of the new Gen3 era. ABT has solid references in the series, and more broadly in motorsport as a whole, and its commitment underscores the appeal of both Formula E and the new Gen3 car launched in Monaco recently.”

ABT was a founding member of Formula E and competed in every race for the first seven years. Its greatest successes include winning the first race in Formula E history on 13 September 2014 in Beijing, Lucas di Grassi’s drivers’ championship title in 2017 and winning the teams’ title a year later. Still as a private team from 2014 to 2017, the team from Kempten took over the operation of the race cars for Audi from 2017 to 2021.

Solid but not perfect DTM season opener for ABT Sportsline

The start of the new DTM season has confirmed one fact above all: The record grid of 29 GT cars from six different brands has not only quantity to offer but also quality. On the demanding racetrack of Portimão in the south of Portugal, the fastest 24 drivers were covered by a single second on both days in qualifying. Just one tenth of a second made a huge difference.

Portimao: DTM race at Portimao 2022

Team ABT Sportsline managed to score points with two cars in both races and left the Algarve in second place in the DTM Teams’ Championship. In the drivers’ standings, Kelvin van der Linde is fifth with 20 points.

The team from the Allgäu region struggled at Portimão mainly in qualifying. Kelvin van der Linde got stuck in the heavy traffic on Saturday and also caught a flat spot. The result: grid position 17, the worst of his DTM career. “Never give up!” was the South African’s motto afterwards with an impressive race performance. Van der Linde fought his way up to fourth putting a smile back on his face.

Qualifying on Sunday went better for him with eighth place, but all three ABT drivers lost some time on their qualifying laps mainly in the last corner. Van der Linde made the best of it in Sunday’s race as well collecting eight more valuable points finishing sixth.

Ricardo Feller made a remarkable debut in the DTM and within Team ABT Sportsline: The young Swiss was involved in the leading group right from the start and scored points in both races in 6th and 9th.

René Rast’s weekend showed that this is anything but granted in the 2022 DTM. After a contact with the Mercedes of defending champion Maximilian Götz, the steering wheel of his ABT Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II was askew. In addition, a rim was damaged. Nevertheless, the three-time DTM champion had points within his grasp on his comeback when he was involved in a collision at the restart after a safety car period. The race-leading Lamborghini had failed to get going properly, triggering a chain reaction of which René Rast was also a victim. On Sunday, he missed the top ten and points by only 1.4 seconds in 12th place.

After the solid but not perfect season opener, the MAN trucks from ABT Sportsline will tackle the 2,500-kilometre return journey to Kempten on Monday morning. By the time the transporters arrive in the Allgäu region, the team’s engineers will have long since analysed all the data in order to be even stronger at the Lausitzring from 20 to 22 May compared to Portimão, especially in qualifying.

Perfect finish for “RSQ8 Signature Edition”
800 HP Racing Utility Vehicle sold out in record time

As if the fans had only been waiting for it: The second model of the Signature Edition first launched by ABT Sportsline for the company’s 125th anniversary in 2021 also found new owners very quickly. After the 64 exclusively refined Audi RS 6 of the Johann Abt Signature Edition, which were sold in no time, the world’s largest automotive aftermarket and performance parts specialist for Audi and VW launched the RSQ8 Signature Edition. Only 96 examples will be produced. Only vehicles of the highest exclusivity from ABT Sportsline are allowed to adorn themselves with the addition “Signature Edition”. A special highlight on board the strictly limited edition RSQ8 Signature Edition is the time capsule in the centre console. Inside is a fragment of the first winner’s trophy from the founder’s grandson Johann Abt.

The limited number of units of the RSQ8 Signature Edition is a reference to ABT’s founding year in 1896, when company founder Johann Abt laid the foundation for today’s global company with his horse forge known for innovative solutions. As was already the case with the Johann Abt Signature Edition, there is now again an extensive aerodynamic kit with a special and once again completely different surface structure. “Signature Carbon Bold” is the motto this time for a large number of add-on parts. In addition, there are very special forged wheels of the type HIGH PERFORMANCE “Signature Edition 23 glossy black”, an impressive interior and much more. It’s not just the attractive look of the RSQ8 Signature Edition that is impressive. Thanks to the ABT Power R* performance upgrade, the V8 biturbo engine now produces an impressive 800 HP (589 kW). This means that the Racing Utility Vehicle from ABT Sportsline can reach speeds of up to 315 km/h and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. The intercooler and turbocharger specially developed for the Signature Edition models, in combination with the high-tech ABT Engine Control (AEC) unit, ensure a performance that is worthy of racing.

New owners were found almost as quickly, so that ABT Sportsline’s stock is completely sold out. “Only a hand-picked number are still available from our sales partners. We knew that with the RSQ8 Signature Edition we had created a truly special automobile for our customers. The great interest in our Racing Utility Vehicle is a confirmation of our work and naturally makes us very happy,” explains Managing Partner Hans-Jürgen Abt. The first vehicles, all hand-built by experienced racing mechanics, will be delivered soon. Automotive exclusivity has a name: RSQ8 Signature Edition.
