GAZ Gold Coilover Suspension for Ford Puma

Looking for a reasonably priced sportscar for some fun and a few trackdays? A Ford Puma might be the answer and, if you want to get the real sportscar experience out of it, a GAZ Gold coilover kit is what’s needed.

The coilover struts are both height and damper rate adjustable with rride height adjustable through 80mm.

The height adjusters have a coarse acme form thread for ease of adjustment and the damper units are black zinc plated to ensure that they remain in good order even after considerable service.

Damper rates are variable by means of an adjuster knob on the damper body. The GAZ Gold range comes with a gas cell in the reservoir filled with a high viscosity index multi grade oil to prevent cavitation and reduce fade under racing or trackday conditions.

All the units are individually tested before leaving the factory and are covered by a two year warranty.

GAZ can produce this kit with ‘road use’ or ‘full race’ valving as required.

GAZ Gold Coilover Kits are available for Puma 1996-98 models (No: GGA444) and for 1999 onwards (No: GGA445) and both retail at £1,024.30 plus. VAT per kit.

GAZ Adjustable Dampers for Fiat 126

The 126 used much of the same mechanical underpinnings and layout as its Fiat 500 rear-engined predecessor with which it shared its wheelbase. However, in contrast it featured an all new bodyshell closely resembling a scaled-down Fiat 127.

This cute little two door was manufactured until 1979 and over a million were produced. Whilst this was considerable it was far short of the more popular Fiat 500. However, it found greater popularity in Eastern Europe as the Polski Fiat version, which sold in excess of three million.

GAZ is now offering an adjustable damper rate shock absorber for the 126 complete with height adjustable spring platforms for assister springs.

The damper rate can be adjusted by means of an easily accessible adjuster knob on the side.

GAZ can set the dampers up for general road use. They will also be suitable for occasional track slalom and sprint use; alternatively they can even be set up for serious classic racing use if desired.

GAZ dampers feature a zinc plated body and protective plastic sleeve to keep them looking good and working well for long into the future.

All the units are individually tested before leaving the factory and covered by a two year warranty for non-competition use.

The GAZ coilover dampers for the Fiat 126 retail at £93.09 + VAT each

GAZ Dampers for Ford Escort MkII Estate

The Escort MkII estates and vans were a bit of an oddball creation with the Escort MkI body and an Escort MkII front end.

However, this doesn’t stop GAZ Suspension from offering GT shock absorbers for these models.

GAZ GT Dampers will provide variable bump and rebound rates which can be adjusted to suit the conditions and driving style. The damping rates can be altered by means of an easily accessible knob on the side of the units.

GAZ can set the dampers up for general road use and they will also be suitable for occasional track slalom and sprint use, or alternatively they can even be set up for serious racing use if you desired. It should go without saying that the rate can also be wound up to carry a heavy load in the back!

GAZ dampers feature a zinc plated body and protective plastic sleeve to keep them looking good and working well for long into the future.

All units are individually tested before leaving the factory and are covered by a two year warranty.

The GAZ GT dampers for Ford Escort MkII estate/van can be ordered as GAI2103 for the front and GT5-2061 for the rear. Front dampers retail at £96.80 each and rears sell for £63.70 each. Prices are plus VAT and the dampers are suitable for all estate and van models from 1975 to 1980.

GAZ Monotube Coilover Kits for Vauxhall (Opel) Calibra

Following a recent order for a one-off set, leading suspension specialists GAZ has now added the
neo-classic Vauxhall Opel Calibra to its monotube suspension application list.

GAZ gas-charged monotube coilovers are far lighter than other types of coilover damper and also make use of lightweight billet aluminium parts; thus unsprung weight is reduced, making them ideal for serious trackday or competition use. They also react quicker and can be used in an inverted position.

GAZ monotube coilover kits come with silicone chrome springs and the required mounting hardwear. The spring platforms are adjustable to allow the ride height to be altered as required and the bump and rebound settings can be adjusted by means of a knurled collar at the top (or bottom if used inverted).

Like all GAZ coilovers the monotubes carry a two year warranty for non-race use.

Bespoke valving and the customer’s preferred spring rates are available.

GAZ Monotube Coilover Suspension Kits for the Vauxhall/Opel Calibra retail at £1495.00 + VAT.

Fidanza Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel for 1961-1963 Austin Healey Sprite

There must be quite a few Austin Healey Sprite owners who are preparing their cars for the first outing of the year. So it’s just the right time to consider installing a Fidanza lightweight flywheel.

A Fidanza lightweight aluminum flywheel will improve performance and acceleration because replacing the heavy standard flywheel dramatically improves the power-to-weight ratio.

The Fidanza aluminium flywheel is made from high-quality machined 6061 T6 aluminium with a 1050 steel friction surface. Fastener holes and chamfers have been CNC machined for accuracy and military grade fasteners are included.

The steel friction surface of the flywheel (shown in the image with its green protective coating) is heat treated for optimum grip and a long service life. It is also replaceable; when the surface eventually becomes worn it can be changed without having to replace the whole flywheel.

Every Fidanza flywheel application is a unique design. Each design takes into account: overall balance, critical clearances, tensile strength, heat dissipation and optimum weight saving. Thereby a careful balance is struck between reducing the original weight and maintaining a smooth idle for day-to-day street driving.

The Fidanza lightweight aluminum flywheel for 1961-1963 Austin Healey 948cc Sprite can be ordered directly from Fidanza.com as part number 126481 at $415.73 plus shipping and import tax.

Fidanza can also supply a similar flywheel for 1966-1974 MG Midget/Sprite -1275cc.
Order as part number 126751 – $403.47 plus shipping and import tax.

DEI Formed Sensor Covers

One of the bugbears of modern motoring is having the ‘Check Engine’ light come on, paying for a garage to check it out and finding that it’s not an engine fault, but the sensor ‘playing up’. There are many reasons for a sensor giving a false warning or actually fail. Some can be prevented by fitting DEI’s new Thermal Sensor Covers.

DEI Thermal Sensor Covers will protect delicate sensors, plugs and wire connectors from heat, moisture and dirt. They are made from an aluminised insulation material that acts as a thermal barrier for sensitive wire connections and the sensors themselves.

DEI Thermal Sensor Covers are simple to install thanks to a split top. There is no need to disconnect the wiring loom to install them.

DEI Thermal Sensor Covers are sold in pairs and are available with 25mm and 32mm diameters. They can be nested together to fully cover connectors and are particularly effective near exhaust manifolds, turbos and other heat sources.

Prices start at £16.18 per pair plus import tax and delivery.
• 10753 – 25mm diameter 2 pack
• 10754 – 32mm diam. diameter 2 pack
• 10759 – 25mm+32mm diameter pack of one each

Burton’s Thermostat/Water Housings
for Cosworth YB 4×4 Engines

The Cosworth YB Engine has two thermostat/water housings that are comprised of an unusually complex rear section to house the thermostat and a front section that connects to the radiator bottom hose.

These castings can corrode and degrade over time, especially if the coolant has been neglected. Fortunately Burton Power can supply replacements for both sections to bring the system back to prime condition.

The Front Section Connector (with plug) can be ordered as part number SC1074 at £38.50 inc. VAT and the Rear Section Thermostat/Water Housing can be ordered as part number SC1073 at £60.00 inc. VAT.

These housings are suitable for:
• Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4wd 1990-1992
• Ford Escort RS Cosworth 4wd T34 1992-06/1994
• Ford Escort RS Cosworth 4wd T25 06/1994-1996

Burton’s Roller-Rocker Assembly
for Ford X/Flow OHV Kent Engine

Conventional rocker arms tend to produce sideways movement in the valve stems which causes high levels of friction and subsequent wear to both stems and valve guides. Replacing the standard rockers with roller-rockers virtually eliminates this wear thanks to the strong arm construction of the rockers and the presence of large, low friction needle roller bearings.

The standard lift Burton Roller Rocker Assembly for the Ford Kent engine can be ordered as part number FP229K at £500.00 inc. VAT.

The roller rocker assembly is suitable for all Ford Kent engines, but an alloy rocker cover will be required for clearance. The Burton FP227 or FP227P RED Alloy Rocker Covers would be ideal.

The roller rocker assembly is also suitable for Kent engines used in:
• Caterham 7
• Morgan 4/4 1600 1.6 1968-
• TVR 1600M 1.6 1972-1977

No racing luck at the Extreme E finale – ABT CUPRA XE already looks ahead to next season

The rollercoaster ride that ABT CUPRA XE is experiencing in its first Extreme E season continued at the finale: After the podium success last time in Sardinia, Jutta Kleinschmidt and Mattias Ekström dropped out of the competition in Great Britain already in the semi-finals. After a good start, Ekström collided with Carlos Sainz, who braked quite abruptly on the first straight, destroying the front of his e-CUPRA ABT XE1. As a result, only the rear drive was available after just half of a total of three laps, leaving the German-Swedish duo without a chance.

“This final weekend was a bit symbolic of the whole season: we have the performance to be right up there at the front, but simply don’t get a completely smooth race day,” says Mattias Ekström. “At least we gained lots of experience and data on our journey around the world and in a wide variety of conditions. 2021 was an apprenticeship year in a completely new championship, which will help the team in the coming season.” Only a few quiet Christmas days remain for Mattias Ekström: The Swede will already start for Audi in the famous Dakar Rally at the beginning of January.

Teammate Jutta Kleinschmidt, who joined the team after the first race weekend, also looks back on eventful days and months. “We would have liked to end our season with another trophy, but there was too much going on for that,” says the German. “We had the muddiest starting position for the semi-final after a difficult qualifying session. Mattias still had a great start, but then it was all over far too quickly after the collision, especially as I had to restart the system after the driver change.”

After races in Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Greenland, Sardinia and now on the south coast of the UK, the first season of Extreme E is coming to an end. ABT CUPRA XE has already confirmed its participation for 2022, which is scheduled to begin again in Saudi Arabia in February. The team plans to announce drivers and other partners alongside CUPRA, the team’s namesake, at the start of the new year.

With ABT Power S to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds the 384 HP SQ5 becomes a cool eye-catcher with the rear skirt set

The Audi SQ5 and SQ5 Sportback are genuine sports cars in the SUV class and even score points with their low fuel consumption thanks to their TDI engines. In the course of an overhaul, the engine recently lost a few HP, but this did not harm its sprint qualities. In addition, ABT Sportsline now offers a performance upgrade* that is well worth seeing: Thanks to ABT Power S, the 3.0 TDI now releases 384 HP (282 kW) and 760 Nm instead of 347 HP (255 kW) and 700 Nm. This is not only reflected in the performance data, but also ensures noticeably faster acceleration on the road: The car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds instead of 5.1 seconds. This means that the psychologically important five-second mark is undercut. The high-tech control unit AEC (ABT Engine Control) constantly adjusts more than 25 parameters. Optimum power output and ideal engine protection are the result.

Other drivers will probably see the ABT Sportsline performance-enhanced SQ5 TDI primarily from the rear. And it is precisely this perspective that is now being visually upgraded. On request, customers of the world’s largest automotive aftermarket and performance parts specialist for Audi and VW can obtain the ABT rear wing and the ABT rear skirt set. Both are available exclusively for the SUV versions of the SQ5 and Q5 TFSI e (hybrid drive). The features of the set include a very special quartet: two ABT carbon double exhaust cover in 102 mm format. All other components are also available for the Sportback.

The vehicle height also influences the dynamic appearance. ABT Sportsline therefore offers height-adjustable suspension springs for SQ5 TDI with “steel suspension”, which allow a flexible lowering of 35 to 60 mm at both axles. For the Q5 TFSI e, which is also covered by ABT, the variable lowering is between 15 and 40 mm. Especially for SUVs, which have a high centre of gravity, an upgrade of this kind guarantees a clear plus in terms of handling. At the same time, the 21-inch ABT Sport HR glossy black alloy wheels on the photo vehicle look even better thanks to the lowering. Their sporty, elegant design in classic black sets the scene perfectly for the Audi SQ5. Thanks to their stability and perfectly balanced weight, the rims also contribute to the agile and comfortable driving experience. Want more alternatives? In the ABT configurator you will find further wheel creations for the SQ5: the ABT GR and DR in 20 inch and the FR in 21 inch. Also worth considering: the ABT integrated entry lights, which projects the ABT logo onto the asphalt.
