Following a recent order for a one-off set, leading suspension specialists GAZ has now added front struts for the Peugeot 205 Rallye to its monotube suspension application list.
GAZ Monotube Coilover kits come with silicone chrome springs and the required mounting hardware. The spring platforms are adjustable to allow the ride height to be altered as required and the bump and rebound settings can be adjusted by means of a nut on the base. (On these units the base becomes the top, as they are mounted in an inverted position. Unlike other monotubes they can only be mounted one way).
Like all GAZ coilovers the monotubes carry a two year warranty for non race use.
Bespoke valving and customer’s preferred spring rates are also available.
A pair of GAZ Monotube Coilover Suspension Front Struts for the Peugeot 205 Rallye retail at £862.86 + VAT with springs.
Also available: Front top mounts, rear dampers and rear springs with height adjustable spring platforms.

The Toyota MR-2 is already a great handling sports car with its transverse mounted mid engine and front and rear MacPherson strut suspension. However, it’s quite easy to improve things even further with a GAZ GHA suspension kit.
The Gaz units are both height and damper rate adjustable. Ride height is adjustable through 80mm of adjustment.
The height adjusters have a coarse acme form thread for ease of adjustment and the damper units are black zinc plated to ensure that they remain in good order even after considerable service.
Damper rates are variable through 22 different settings by means of an adjuster knob on the damper body. Donor struts are required as the brackets and bodies are renovated and reused.
All the units are individually tested before leaving the factory and are covered by a two year warranty. GAZ GHA Coilover Kits for Toyota MR-2 retail at £919.34 + VAT per kit
GAZ can produce this kit with ‘road use’ or full race valving as required.

Although SAAB went bankrupt several years ago the cars still enjoy a great following. In fact, according to Wikipedia, a psychologist at Ruhr University Bochum, named Rüdiger Hossiep found that “Saab drivers have the highest level of psychological involvement with their cars, being over ten times more passionate than the average Volkswagen driver”. No doubt SAAB 9-3 owners will be interested to hear that Fidanza can further improve their driving experience with a lightweight flywheel.
Fidanza’s aluminum flywheels are made from the highest quality 6061 T6 aluminum for superb tensile strength, incredible heat dissipation and (of course) a reduction in weight that delivers faster acceleration, quicker throttle response, better vehicle braking and increased clutch efficiency, as well as long lasting durability.
A Fidanza flywheel can mate with many types of clutch material, including: organic kevlar, ceramic, metallic and sintered iron. Most companies design their flywheels so that they can be refaced. However, Fidanza makes the whole friction surface replaceable so the flywheel will never require resurfacing or total replacement. When the friction surface wears, just that alone needs to be replaced, thus saving both time and money. The pattern for the fasteners is a computer design that keeps the friction surface from warping under extreme use. Fidanza doesn’t just use more fasteners because they can, Fidanza uses them because they are needed.
The flywheel for the Saab 9-3 2003 -2007, 2.0 litre can be ordered directly from Fidanza.com as part number 136931. Fidanza can also supply flywheels for the SAAB 9-2X models.
Fidanza flywheels are available in Europe through Limora with distributors in Germany, France, Poland, Spain and Italy and dealers throughout Europe and the UK. Prices from the Fidanza.com website start at $426.14 but will be subject to import tax, handling and shipping. Contact Limora for local prices.

for gearlever to selector shaft: Type 9 & Type E (Rocket) Gearboxes
The standard plastic saddle clip between the gearlever and selector shaft on Ford Type 9 Five Speed and Type E Four Speed gearboxes has an unfortunate habit of wearing quickly and can, in some cases, break.
Burton Power now has the solution in the form of a UK manufactured glass reinforced plastic injection moulded saddle clip which is extremely tough and will easily outlast the standard plastic ones.
Order as part no. GBT9538 at £15.00 inc. VAT.
These gearboxes were used in a great variety of classic Fords including: Capri Mk3, Cortina Mk3,Mk4/Mk5, Escort Mk1 RS2000, Escort Mk2 RS Mexico, Escort Mk2 RS1800, Escort Mk2 RS2000, Granada Mk2, Granada/Scorpio Mk3, Granada/Scorpio Mk3 4×4, Ford P100 , Ford Sierra, XR4i, XR4x4 and Transit Mk3.
The Ford Type E Rocket 4 Speed Gearbox was also referred to as a ‘Type B’ gearbox. The Ford Type 9 5 Speed Gearbox, on the other hand, was referred to as a ‘Type N’ gearbox. The latter gearbox is the most commonly used for 5 speed conversions on older vehicles, including not just classic Fords, but other classic makes such as MG and Triumph as well as kit cars.

Burton Power is pleased to announce it can supply genuine Farndon Solid Steel Billet Crankshafts for the Cosworth YB block as used in the: Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, Sierra Cosworth RS500, Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 2wd and 4wd, Escort RS Cosworth 4wd T34 and T25.
Farndon crankshafts are of high quality and are produced using the very best steel from Corus, one of the worlds leading producers of alloy and aircraft steels. Corus steel is the material most suited to the manufacture of crankshafts. Factory cleanliness and quality standards exceed the requirements of the British standards.
All Farndon crankshafts are heat treated to raise the core strength of the crankshaft. Ultrasonic examination is carried out on the rolled bar to ensure there is no cracking. The sulphur content is controlled to give good machinability and minimise the risks of sulphides causing problems with finished components. The crankshafts are Nitrided for 72 hours (unless otherwise requested by the customer), this gives the crankshaft a case depth minimum of .5mm to .6mm and a minimum hardness of 750HV. The benefit of this procedure is that it gives the crankshaft a much harder wearing surface.
The Farndon 9 bolt 76.95mm EN40B steel crankshaft for Ford Cosworth YB can be ordered as part no. SC324/77 at £1,740.00 inc. VAT. Available From Stock. Free UK Delivery.
Farndon are also able to manufacture any crankshaft on a one-off basis. Call Burton to discuss.

After a two-year break, the DTM is returning to Austria and with it also the fans: For the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will again be allowed in the DTM paddock. The proximity to the fans has always been a special feature of the popular racing series, which has been sorely missed lately.
Accordingly, the ABT Sportsline team is looking forward to the two races at the Red Bull Ring (Live on SAT.1 and ran.de from 1 PM on Saturday and Sunday).
ABT Sportsline’s main goal for the weekend is to defend its lead in the teams’ and drivers’ standings. At the same time, the team located at Johann-Abt-Strasse in Kempten knows very well that a lot can always happen on the picturesque race track near Spielberg in Styria.
At the first event in Spielberg in 2001, Laurent Aiello clinched a podium for ABT Sportsline at its first attempt with second place in the compact Abt-Audi TT-R. At that time, he was the only one of the three ABT drivers to see the checkered flag in a turbulent race.
One year later, the fans witnessed one of the most spectacular races in DTM history, in which Laurent Aiello would have needed just two points more than Bernd Schneider to secure an early DTM title. After a memorable last lap and an accident in the final corner, Aiello and ABT Sportsline had to wait another three weeks for their first DTM title triumph.
The champagne for the championship title was already chilled in the pits at that time and the ABT house band Fire44 was waiting outside the gates of the race track.
In 2003, Aiello narrowly missed the podium in fourth place. After that, the A1 Ring was rebuilt and did not play host to any DTM races for quite some time.
In 2011, Oliver Jarvis took the first podium for ABT Sportsline at the newly opened Red Bull Ring. Memories of qualifying that year are not so positive in Kempten: Miguel Molina and Mattias Ekström crashed in the pit lane (!) on slicks in the rain and both drivers had to start the race from the last row of the grid.
ABT Sportsline celebrated its first race win at the Red Bull Ring with Edoardo Mortara in Saturday’s race in 2015. Mattias Ekström was victorious one day later. Until then, the Swede had been denied a podium at the race track of his long-time partner Red Bull, of all places.
Ekström triumphed again in 2017. Nico Müller made it a perfect double podium for ABT Sportsline with third place, which was a great birthday present for Thomas Biermaier, who celebrated his 40th birthday on race day.
A year earlier, Ekström lost his cool following Saturday’s race, after he had already been “flipped” in the first corner and, from his point of view, unfairly blocked during his pursuit to catch up. “It’s always the same clowns,” ‘Eki’ exclaimed on television at the time.
Most recently, Nico Müller scored four podiums in a row for ABT Sportsline at the Red Bull Ring. In 2018, the Swiss could even have won, but in both races he made way for his Audi teammate René Rast, who still had a chance of winning the title shortly before the end of the season.
Team ABT Sportsline has raced in Spielberg twelve times with the DTM so far. In 15 races, the team has achieved three victories and a total of eleven podium finishes. At the last four events at the Red Bull Ring, ABT Sportsline always brought back at least two trophies to Kempten.
Actually ABT CUPRA XE wanted to celebrate the birthday of its driver Jutta Kleinschmidt on Sunday with champagne on the podium. However, after a brilliant performance in qualifying, where Jutta Kleinschmidt and Mattias Ekström finished second overall, the team was stopped in the semi-final on Sunday morning. The reason was a technical issue on the drive shaft of the all-electric single-spec car.
“Unfortunately, we experienced another unfortunate semi-final today because the drive shaft gave up after just a few seconds. So we fought the competition with blunt weapons and had no chance for a spot in the final,” says Mattias Ekström. Together with his teammate, he had caused a stir on Saturday with a strong performance in qualifying: after both runs, the Swedish-German duo finished second.
“The race day was then absolutely not what we had hoped for. What remains are the impressions from our visit to Greenland and of course lots of data. We will analyse everything very carefully and then attack again in Sardinia at the end of October,” says Ekström. Just six seconds after the start of the second semi-final against the teams of Nico Rosberg and Michael Andretti, the race car with Jutta Kleinschmidt at the wheel suffered a defect on the rear right drive shaft and was subsequently barely drivable. Although the 2001 Dakar winner and also Mattias Ekström fought bravely over the eight-kilometre circuit, a spot in the final remained out of reach.
“It’s my birthday today, but unfortunately we all didn’t get the present we had hoped for,” said Jutta Kleinschmidt. “The track here in Greenland was extremely demanding for the cars, we saw that in many incidents over the past few days. It hit us in the semi-final after just a few metres, it was simply out of our hands. On the positive side, we’ve seen that we’re right on track when everything runs smoothly. We want to and will prove that in Sardinia.”
The next Extreme E event is on the calendar on October 23 and 24: The nine teams will then fight for the next victory at the Island X Prix in Sardinia (Italy).
