Tarox bespoke brake discs for classic cars

‘No longer available’ is a phrase that no classic car owner wants to hear, particularly if the classic in question is a prestigious or rare model. However, when it comes to brake discs that phrase need no longer cause dread because, thanks to the technological advances at TAROX, one-off replacement discs are now readily available. Moreover, their quality is such that they even exceed the original factory specifications!

In mass production brake discs are usually cast and reproducing a mould to cast obsolete discs is an expensive business which needs a substantial production run to cover costs. Producing cast discs for exotic classics such as a Lamborghini Miura is unlikely to be economically viable. Instead, TAROX uses sliced rolled steel billets, which enable the re-creation of any brake disc – even on a one-off basis. Both single piece and two piece bell and rotor replacements can be produced by this method and the finished disc will have more than TWICE the ultimate tensile strength per square millimetre than standard cast brake discs.

Of course a company like TAROX isn’t going to leave it there. Because TAROX can produce individual discs the customer can opt to have a plain disc (TAROX Zero) for original concours looks or drilled or grooved discs for very high braking performance. Furthermore, each and every TAROX disc is subjected to structural stress relieving heat treatment to provide the best performance under all conditions. The treated disc is more stable at extreme temperatures, thus minimising the chances of warping, cracking and fading that may be experienced with standard discs.

Finally, after being machined the surface of each disc is manually ground to a tolerance approaching 0.015mm. This creates a perfectly level surface to ensure that the discs are dimensionally true and thereby improves disc and pad ‘bedding in’. The heat-treatment process is as essential on TAROX bespoke discs as it for its regular cast discs. The heat cycles TAROX applies to the steel ensure it is ready for its long and effective life as a high performance brake disc.

TAROX bespoke discs can be produced for most classic and exotic cars which are not supported in the current TAROX ‘off-the-shelf’ application list of performance brakes. Examples include most Italian ‘supercars’ such as the Lamborghini Miura and Diablo, early Nissan GTR models and low production run vehicles such as the Audi R8. Prices vary according to application but typically start from £669 per pair.
