The racing season has come to an end and we’re now in the
build season for 2022. Thus it’s now an appropriate time to remind everyone about the GAZ GHA Coilover suspension for the Mazda MX-5 Mk1.

Gaz sponsor the MX-5 Mk1 race series and produce its Gold suspension package for the series. However, not everyone needs full race capability; with that in mind, GAZ produces the GHA kit which offers ride height and damper rate adjustability at a lower price than the Gold kit.

The GHA kit has been designed specifically with road use in mind and has suitable spring and damping rates – although it is also suitable for track day use. The kit is ideal for vehicles that have been subject to power upgrades, as many MX-5s have.

GAZ damper units allow damping adjustment while on the vehicle by means of easily accessible adjuster knobs/top adjusters.

Shortened body and stroke lengths allow a -25 to -55mm ride height variation with a coarse acme form thread provided for easy adjustment.

It’s now 55 years since the last Mk1 Cortina rolled off the production line. For those that are still running around, GAZ has fully adjustable GT dampers to improve the rear suspension and bring it into the 21st Century.

Owners of classic VW Beetles will know that the factory firewall ‘tar boards’ don’t offer back seat passengers much in the way of sound and heat protection from the engine.

Fortunately, DEI has just released a three-piece sound and heat insulation kit for Beetles. The kits are made from a high-temperature black polymer and a resin powder-coated textured aluminium skin with glass fibre matting. These are the same materials used in DEI’s popular Floor and Tunnel Shield kits.

They easily replace the Beetle’s heavy and fragile factory tar boards and are retained by a strong heat resistant self-adhesive backing.

The boards are CNC precision cut for a direct fit and install in exactly the same way as the original factory tar boards; no modifications are needed for the installation.

This 0.060” oversized piston was originaliy designed for Ford 711M engines with flat, (non-chambered) heads (introduced in August 1970) and Fiesta 821M engines.

This 1.3 piston can also be used as an upgraded part in 1.6 engines as the smaller chamber in the piston will raise compression to approx 10.3:1.

Burton is now offering a reproduction of the Escort RS2000 Mk1/2 and Mexico Mk2 LHD aluminium sump. This sump is required when installing an SOHC Pinto engine in any RWD Escort as it provides suitable clearance around the crossmember and steering rack. Burton has introduced this sump as good used sumps are now becoming rare and expensive.

Whilst reproducing this sump, Burton has taken the opportunity to redesigned the sump baffle so that it provides far more protection from oil surge than the original version. The modified baffle is designed to always keep the pick-up surrounded by oil even at all times under extreme surge conditions. The Burton sump features a one-way gate that allows oil movement towards the pick-up pipe but not away from it.

The kit includes a sump pan, baffle, sump mounting bolts, drain plug and washer.
