Most us are familiar with the theory of a limited slip differential even if the technicalities are a bit of a mystery. If one wheel looses grip and spins a LSD will supply drive power to the wheel that still has grip, unlike an ‘open’ diff where the spinning wheel will continue to spin and the wheel that has traction will stop turning.

There are many technically different LSDs available, but, after exhaustive tests, MStyle has decided to offer American made Wavetrac differentials to its customers and is reinforceing its belief in the product by offering an introductory 5% discount on supply and fitting.

The unique patented feature that sets Wavetrac apart from other LSDs is the speed at which it reacts to a wheel lifting or the transition from acceleration to deceleration when there is near zero torque at the axle. Wavetrac’s ring of helical gears and wave shaped carbon fibre bias plates react to the half shafts turning at different speeds, rapidly causing each wave surface to climb the other thereby moving them apart.

This, very quickly creates enough internal load within the Wavetrac to apply torque to the wheel on the ground thus keeping the vehicle moving under power without wheelspin.

The Porsche 944 was Porsche’s go-it-alone development of the VW-Audi-Porsche project that produced the 914 and 924. Unlike it’s predecessors the 944 was 100% Porsche powered although Porsche did have to pay a license fee to MItsubishi for the use of their balance shaft design.

The 944 still provides a great entry level Porsche and a classic alternative to the more modern Boxster. The factory suspension of the Mazda RX-8 drew favourable comments right from the launch of the model, however some special edition models came already fitted with aftermarket performance dampers indicating official acknowledgment that there was potential for improvement of the factory suspension.

Now owners of regular RX-8 models can benefit from performance suspension thanks to GAZ adjustable coilovers. The fully adjustable coilovers will lower the centre of gravity and adjust the bump/rebound of the damping.

The ride height can be adjusted by means of threaded spring platforms that have a coarse acme form thread for ease of adjustment and to ensure that they remain in good order even after considerable service.

Damping rates are variable by means of an adjuster knob on the damper bodies. Springs can also be supplied to the customer’s specifications according to the vehicle’s intended use.
