The four cylinder Porsche 912 was produced between 1965 and 1969 as their entry-level model and became one of the most famous and successful sports cars of all time. The Targa version (Porsche’s patented variation of a cabriolet) ran from December 1966 (Series A) and was upgraded to a hard window Targa in 1968 (Series B). It may have been entry level but it’s still an exciting and desirable car today; to help bring its handling up to date, GAZ now offer GT fully adjustable rear dampers for both versions.

In 1972, due to tightening emissions regulations, the Boss 351 edition and optional 429 big block engines were dropped from the Mustang range, leaving the 351 cu. in. as the largest available engine for the 1972 and 1973 year models. The Mazda MX-5 (NC) was the third generation of the Mazda MX-5 manufactured from 2005 to 2015 so, by now many will be in need of some updating and restoration. The factory heat shield around the transmission may be damaged or even missing and replacing the factory heat shield involves removing the transmission.
However, DEI has a far simpler remedy. The DEI MX-5 (Miata) Transmission Tunnel Heat Shield Kit is CNC cut into five individual pieces that can be applied and fitted together above the transmission without the need to remove it.
The kit consists of a high-heat resistant material (DEI’s Floor and Tunnel Shield) that is only 3⁄16″ (approx. 5mm) thick for minimal clearance and rated to handle 1750°F (approx. 950°C) of direct heat. Each piece is backed with an aggressive adhesive for a simple peel, position and stick application. Also included are two packets of adhesion promoter, one roll of 1-1⁄2” (38mm) x 15ft (approx. 4.60m) heat reflective sealing tape to cover seams and detailed installation instructions.

In the case of the XNH, the range includes front grill, front and rear skirts, side skirt add on’s and a striking foil finish with contour lines. The interior of the ABT camper, which is powered by a 150 HP (110 kW) diesel engine, was designed by the renowned company VANING GmbH. The ABT XNH scores with a design furnishing that is as functional as it is noble, with a high-quality finish even in the areas that are not visible. For the surfaces, scratch-resistant and easy-care HPL meets hand-picked real wood panels. The “wall panelling” consists of homely flocked and, above all, lightweight GRP mouldings that were specially made for the project. The assembly of all components is carried out by Volkswagen Group Services GmbH, the specialist in special vehicle construction.
The XNH offers a decisive space advantage due to its 40 cm longer wheelbase compared to the normal T6.1. Five seats meet a spacious kitchen with a double induction hob, refrigerator and table. In addition, there is a pull-out outdoor kitchen with gas cooker in the rear. The company is particularly proud of the self-sufficient power supply, which is ensured by photovoltaic modules. A lithium battery has been installed as a storage unit to ensure that sufficient energy is available even in the dark. The expertise for the concept comes from the countless electromobility projects that ABT e-Line has put on the road in the last decade. Currently, for example, used VW T6.1 are being converted to e-drive.
Environmental friendliness is also in the specifications for the ABT XNH. The camper van has highly effective thermal insulation made of sheep’s wool and recycled material. This ensures low heating requirements and guarantees comfortable temperatures even in the cold season. Production will start in May 2023 at Volkswagen Group Services GmbH in Hanover. For Kelvin van der Linde and for many South African motorsport fans, a little dream will come true this weekend: the 26-year-old youngster will contest the Cape Town E-Prix in his home country together with his team ABT CUPRA. Van der Linde is once again replacing regular driver Robin Frijns, who continues to recover from a hand injury, and will compete alongside Nico Müller in the fifth race of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
The scenery around the 2.927-kilometre circuit is impressive. The track is located in the middle of the city, runs around the stadium and also along the coast and harbour. 30 laps will be completed on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. local time. It is the premiere of Formula E in South Africa and only the second venue on the African continent after Marrakesh. Cape Town is one of four new locations on the 2023 race calendar.
At Formula E’s most recent appearance in Hyderabad, India, ABT CUPRA had shown a clear upward trend in the fourth race of its comeback year: Nico Müller drove the fastest lap of the race and, in eleventh place, narrowly missed scoring the first points for the newly formed team.
Nico Müller: “Challenge for us drivers” Before boarding the plane to the racetrack, preparation in the simulator was on the agenda. “After the first laps there, I think we’ll be facing the fastest track on the calendar,” says Nico Müller. “Especially with the Gen3 car and its higher output, it will be exciting and definitely a challenge for us drivers. We’ve been working intensively on our to-do list despite the short break after India and want to make further progress in Cape Town.” There is also anticipation about the location itself: “The scenery will be impressive. The pictures from Cape Town will go around the world.”
Kelvin van der Linde: “The dream becomes reality” Quite a lot on the agenda for Kelvin van der Linde these days: spontaneous replacement for Robin Frijns in the Formula E World Championship, his first ever races in a formula car and now, as a Johannesburg-born South African, the home race in his own country. “Now this dream is actually coming true and I’m driving a World Championship race in South Africa,” says van der Linde. “We all hoped that Robin would be fit in time. But of course, I will now give everything to represent him decently in Cape Town as well. The interest is enormous, my phone doesn’t stop ringing and buzzing. I’m really looking forward to the weekend.”
Thomas Biermaier: “The goal must be to race for points” “The anticipation for the debut of Formula E in Cape Town is huge, you can feel it throughout the paddock,” says team principal Thomas Biermaier. “It’s a bit of a dream come true for our local hero Kelvin, even if he would of course have wished the circumstances of his home race to be different.” In sporting terms, the direction is clear for Kelvin and Nico. Thomas Biermaier: “We recently made steps forward in India, and that’s exactly where we want to pick up: the goal in Cape Town must be to race for points again.”
