When restoring a classic Mini it’s amazing how many tiny parts can catch you out if you haven’t obtained them before starting work. One such part is the long locating pin, used to position the retainer 22G1434 which holds a rod change gear lever in place in the alloy housing. This is one of the two pins required: a long one and a short one.

Thankfully this tiny part is once again available from Mini Spares.

The Burton Power modular cover and water pump kit for the Lotus Twin Cam enables the water pump components to be easily removed without disturbing the front cover or the sump.

The water pump components are assembled into a module which can then be inserted into the front cover housing and retained with three socket cap screws. This saves a huge amount of time when replacing the water pump seals and bearing, and saves unnecessary costs in replacing oil and gaskets.

The package includes the water pump module as well as both front and rear covers. It is suitable for a standard height original 1500 block (an alternative is available for 1600 blocks). It is also ideal as a replacement for original corroded front covers. Please note that Burton front covers and back plates cannot be mixed with OE items.

The kit provides cast alloy pulleys for the alternator, water pump and idler with an adjustable spherical-ended tensioner and a multi-ribbed Poly V belt (5PK).

The alternator pulley is designed to fit a 15mm diameter shaft, but can be simply modified by the customer to suit 17mm shafts if required.

Webcon has produced Weber DCOE conversions for the Ford Pinto engine for over forty years. Some installations pose a challenge for modifiers in that they are very restricted for space, with the servo or battery box location meaning that significant modifications are necessary to allow fitment of the carburettors on the existing 94mm deep manifold.

That has all changed now though with the introduction of the new Webcon short manifold, which has an overall depth of just 30mm. This has allowed the production of special Weber DCOE kits suitable for restricted applications and these are available with both 40 and 45DCOE carburettors.

In 1990 the style of wiper arm on the classic Mini changed from the clip-on end to the hook-end to prevent wiper blades flying off under kinetic force whilst in operation.
