All aluminium radiators will corrode due to contact with water and although the corrosion of alloys is not as obvious as the rusting of steel or iron it still has the potential to cause problems in time.
Fortunately there is a simple solution to the problem; that uses the naturally occurring electrochemical potential difference between different metallic elements to provide protection.
Put simply, by including a metal that corrodes more easily than aluminium in the cooling system the corrosion potential of the aluminium is reduced, bringing it closer to an immune state.
This can be achieved by fitting a zinc sacrificial anode in to the cooling system. Aeroflow’s zinc sacrificial anode is basically a rod of zinc mounted in a threaded bolt that can be screwed into the drain hole of the aluminium radiator or inserted via a threaded weld-on collar. Because zinc is more electrically negative than aluminium it will corrode in preference to the aluminium radiator. Obviously the anode will require replacing eventually but it’s far cheaper than a new radiator!
The Aeroflow Zinc Sacrificial Anode Plug Cooling System Solution – to give it its full name – can be ordered as part number AF49-2500. It features a 1/4” NPT thread which will fit some radiator drain holes, but if your radiator uses a different size the Aeroflow AF998-04D Aluminium Weld-on Collar can be used instead. Retail price for the Anode is £14.39 incl. VAT and the collar is £3.59 incl. VAT.

Aeroflow Aero clamps are recommended for extra clamping on push lock rubber hoses when used in high pressure and heat applications.
Aeroflow 1mm Turbo Restrictor Inserts are ideal for use with bearing turbos. These great little 1mm restrictor inserts restrict the oil flow/pressure to the core of the turbo to ensure long life of the seals.
Webcon is delighted to announce the launch of a complete throttle body set to suit the 2.0 8v VW crossflow engine as used in the Golf and water-cooled Beetles.
The Ford Duratec engine has proved popular with tuners and kit car builders alike and almost all conversions use throttle bodies or Weber DCOE carburettors. For years Webcon has supplied a regular intake manifold, but in some instances space is at a premium and it is not possible to use the standard 75mm manifold.
The legend of MOMO is reborn with the MOMO California Wood steering wheel.
Amazingly, in this digital age, there are still some classic Mini owners who are still using contact breaker ignition, possibly for reasons of orignality. Now Mini Spares can offer a ‘Fixed Point’ electronic ignition conversion that it fits entirely inside the stock distributor cap!.
Mini Spares now offers a new kit of head studs and nuts which it believes to be the best available on the market for road and lightly tuned Mini engines.
M-Style is pleased to announce that it can offer Gloss Black, Twin Slat Kidney Grilles for the BMW F30 and F31 models.
The classic Bristol 405 has now become quite a rare beast. So rare, in fact, that it doesn’t appear in the GAZ catalogue. That didn’t pose a problem for GAZ though when a customer requested a set of fully adjustable rear dampers for a 405. Armed with all of the technical data GAZ proceeded to custom build a set and now that they have the specification GAZ can reproduce them for other Bristol 405 owners too.
