GAZ Adjustable Dampers for AC Ace-Bristol

In 1953, the AC began production of the AC Ace. Soon after, car dealer and racing driver Ken Rudd fitted his own competition Ace with a pre-war BMW-designed, Bristol-produced 135 bhp (101 kW) six-cylinder engine. This combination was put into production as the AC Ace-Bristol in 1957. In this form, the car raced at Le Mans in 1957 and 1958.

GAZ fully adjustable GT dampers are now available for the historic AC Ace-Bristol to enable the damping bump and rebound rate to be adjusted to suit the conditions and driving style. They have adjustable damping rates which can be altered by means of an easily accessible knob on the side of the units.

GAZ can set the dampers up for general road use and they will also be suitable for occasional track slalom and sprint use, or alternatively they can even be set up for serious racing use if you wish.

GAZ dampers feature a zinc plated body and protective plastic sleeve to keep them looking good and working well for long into the future.

All units are individually tested before leaving the factory and are covered by a 2 year warranty.

The GAZ GT dampers for AC Ace-Bristol retail from £55.03 each plus VAT (Rear: Part no. GT2 4482)

ABT Sportsline transforms Audi RS 5 into personal dream car

ABT Sportsline is not only known for spectacular complete vehicles with firmly defined specifications: In many cases, customer cars are also refined “à la carte”. A particularly attractive example is this recently completed ABT RS5 in the beguiling Sonoma Green metallic finish. The 21-inch ABT Sport GR alloy wheels in the special colour “Racing Gold matt” provide a contrast to the gleaming paintwork. But the geometry of the rim with its strongly concave design is also spectacular. The small but effective aero package perfects the lines of the extroverted coupé. The ABT wheelhouse ventilation in shiny black each feature a carbonfin. They allude to the enormous power hidden in the engine compartment of this refined Audi RS 5 Coupé. A further highlight are the fender badges in glossy painted carbon fibre. The visual finale comes in the form of an ABT rear spoiler in the same look & feel.

This dynamic platform is the stage upon which the most powerful engine tuning currently offered by the company for the RS 5 can perform: the performance upgrade ABT Power S* with 530 hp (390 kW) and 680 Nm. By using the AEC high-tech control unit in conjunction with an additional water radiator kit and an air intake cover, the 450 hp (331 kW) and 600 Nm strong basis thus gains another significant boost: 80 hp (59 kW) and 80 Nm. The increase in power is also reflected in the achievable driving performance. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h, for example, is reduced from 3.9 to 3.6 seconds. For cars with factory ceramic brakes, there is also the option to increase the top speed to 300 km/h. The customer also had the lateral dynamics sharpened up. ABT height-adjustable suspension springs were used, which facilitate lowering of up to 25 mm. They perform excellently in curves in conjunction with ABT sport anti-roll bars for the front and rear axle. They improve handling by reducing roll and counteracting understeer.

The finishing of the interior begins at the very first approach, when the ABT integrated entrance lights projects the three-letter logo onto the ground. In each case, carbon is also used for seat shells, seat frame covers and dashboard covers. For the shift knob cover and steering wheel refinement, CRP is also combined with fine leather. This allows the vehicle to be driven in style.

ABT impresses at German Design Award and SPORT AUTO AWARD

The ABT Sportsline brand has represented progress and performance in perfection for 124 years. In doing this, the basic values of innovation, quality and driving pleasure play a decisive role. This is illustrated by three first and two second places in the “SPORT AUTO AWARD 2020” reader survey of the eponymous German car magazine. The corporate design, which was recently completely redesigned by ABT Sportsline after twelve years, also turned in a top performance, as documented by the Special Mention at the German Design Award in the category Excellent Communications Design – Corporate Identity. This is the international premium prize awarded by the renowned German Design Council since 2011. The jury of experts outlined: “The new corporate design conveys dynamism, power and attention to detail. The ABT Brandbar as a central design element and a striking design language create a uniform framework that immediately conveys racing and automotive passion.”

The successful “New Corporate Design” mission was undertaken with the help of Schindler Parent GmbH, an advertising agency from Meersburg on Lake Constance. It developed the ABT Brandbar, whose three crossbars represent the three company divisions ABT Sportsline, e-Line and Motorsport. It is used in advertisements and posters as well as on the homepage, in business correspondence and press releases. “In order to reflect the high quality of our work, we need an expressive, uniform appearance: dynamic, progressive, self-confident and with a high recognition value”, explains Florian Schindlbeck, Head of Marketing and Press at ABT Sportsline. The new corporate identity thus embodies exactly what the world’s largest automotive aftermarket and performance parts specialist for Audi and VW expresses with its sporty, dynamic products.

How well this spirit is received by the public is demonstrated by the reader’s choice “SPORT AUTO AWARD 2020”, which is organised by the car magazine of the same name. For the 28th time, the sportiest series and tuning vehicles as well as the “Best Brands” were chosen.12,947 people took part. ABT Sportsline would like to thank its readers for the trust they have placed in the brand. You can read the result in the following table or Sport Auto 12/2020.

Lorinser sells 1983 G-Class with just 18,700 kms on the clock

Fire stations, especially those of volunteer fire brigades, are often veritable time capsules. With meticulous maintenance and low mileage, they are the perfect environment for automotive treasures to survive in great shape. With only occasional use and maintenance journeys, storage deterioration is usually rare. Lorinser Classic recently unearthed a true gem of this kind. The company is one of only 46 car dealerships in Germany allowed to use the quality seal of being a “Mercedes-Classic Partner”. The vehicle, which costs 55,000 euros, is a 1983 G-Class with only 18,700 kilometers on the clock.

The robust all-terrain vehicle with the puristic early W460 design was coveted by numerous fire brigades in Germany at the time. But not many were able to afford it, because a G was never really “cheap”, even if it almost completely lacked any luxury extras in the early days. This vehicle from the stock of Lorinser Classic at least has power steering and – as a 280 GE – the strongest version of the time. The six-cylinder gasoline engine was definitely not economical, but with the typically short journeys of a fire brigade, consumption was not much of an issue. The fast 156 HP (115 kW), on the other hand, really paid off – because every minute counts in an emergency. For unpaved roads, the vehicle is equipped not only with the standard auxiliary all-wheel drive with gear reduction. It also comes with the two optional differential locks on the front and rear axles.

“It doesn’t look like the vehicle saw too much rough action, though, because it is in excellent technical condition,” reports Managing Director Marcus Lorinser. In addition, the body and steel rims of the fire brigade vehicle have been treated to a fresh coat of paint. On the inside, the 280 GE reveals its vintage with the typical checked pattern on the fabric seats and door trim panels. The trunk is concealed behind a divided tailgate that opens to the top and bottom. It was converted into a storage compartment for fire brigade purposes using tough metal plates. “In the end, the all-terrain vehicle is a real workhorse and not designed for parading around in dress uniform,” adds Lorinser. That is also why a fixed towbar is installed at the rear of the vehicle for the Ehrsam hose transport trailer with eye hitch. And this glorious anachronism from 1965 gives an almost modern look to even a vintage G-Class.

Of course, Lorinser Classic also has something for those who prefer their classic cars with a little more chrome and tinsel – the range is extensive. But no matter which of the cars with the star changes hands in the end: If you want to be on the safe side, you should buy from a Mercedes Classic partner like Lorinser. The company offers high-quality vehicles that are checked and reconditioned according to a clearly defined checklist before delivery.
