Burton has recently increased its range of Cometic Head Gaskets both in terms of available applications and the variety of thicknesses available. In some applications there are as many as 11 thickness options available!

Cometic are one of the most respected gasket brands in motorsport and have become the gasket of choice amongst engine builders at all levels of competition and street tuning.

Cometic’s MLS gaskets are made from three or more layers of stainless steel. Cometic uses stainless steel for increased strength, corrosion resistance and it’s ability to rebound to shape. The outer layers of the gasket are embossed and coated on both sides with a flouroelastomer rubber based material (Viton) for improved sealing and durability. The Viton coating is heat resistant to 25000C.

Prices vary with application and thickness but as an example a .066″/92.5mm head gasket for a Ford Cosworth YB/SOHC Pinto 2.0 retails at £113.00 inc. VAT and a .140″/92.5mm version retails at £204.71 inc. VAT.

The Maserati Levante S model was inspired by the Mediterranean wind of the same name and its spectacular design and refined luxury has captured many admiring glances. Now the well-known automotive studio LARTE DESIGN has prepared a package of new design features for the Italian SUV. The premium carbon fibre tuning kit is called SHTORM and consists of 17 new elements.

The first thing to catch the eye is the spectacular carbon fiber overlay on the bonnet. The aggressive design continues with carbon shieldings, fiercely protruding around the air intakes under the radiator grille and the illusion of the car being supported by the front bumper pad with its additional splitter. Most aftermarket ignition ECUs are capable of running a 3D ignition map when used with a pair of sidedraft carburettors, and all that is usually required is a throttle position signal to evoke this functionality.

Powerflex now has new, cleverly designed, engine/gearbox mount inserts for some of the VAG PQ35 platform vehicles including: VW Golf 5 & 6, Scirocco, Jetta and Passat as well as Audi A3, S3 & TT with 2.0 FSi, 2.0 TFSi, 2.0 turbo and V6 engines.

The stock transmission and upper engine mounts have always been a problem on these vehicles. The rubber perishes and splits, allowing the engine to move excessively.

The answer until now has been to replace them with new standard rubber mounts or fit expensive aftermarket mounts that are generally prone to excessive levels of NVH transmission.

Powerflex now has an intermediate solution in the form of polyurethane inserts which fit into the original mounts.
