Most us are familiar with the theory of a limited slip differential even if the technicalities are a bit of a mystery. If one wheel looses grip and spins a LSD will supply drive power to the wheel that still has grip, unlike an ‘open’ diff where the spinning wheel will continue to spin and the wheel that has traction will stop turning.

The unique patented feature that sets Wavetrac apart from other LSDs is the speed at which it reacts to a wheel lifting or the transition from acceleration to deceleration when there is near zero torque at the axle. Wavetrac’s ring of helical gears and wave shaped carbon fibre bias plates react to the half shafts turning at different speeds, rapidly causing each wave surface to climb the other thereby moving them apart.
This, very quickly creates enough internal load within the Wavetrac to apply torque to the wheel on the ground thus keeping the vehicle moving under power without wheelspin.
